As you walk the path of growth and healing, you might find yourself wondering how to create a life of balance. It's a word that is hard to avoid in the world of self-development, healing, consciousness. And adds stress to a those who are eager to embrace change.
But what does it actually mean? If you look it up, you find: Balance. Put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall.
Hmmmmm.
Honestly, balance is one of those things I’m careful about encouraging. In my personal opinion it’s a buzz word that has been misused in describing a measurement of happiness.
As life is never in constant balance. It’s a continuous flowing movement unfolding through time. Transforming and evolving in every moment.
I once went to a haptonoom (a type of body healer) that made me stand on a wobble board, and asked me to find my balance. As an almost lifelong yoga student, I stood on it in balance quickly and easily. Then she asked me to feel into whether I felt that I was in balance. Not with the board, but within myself.
The answer, of course, was no. I was stiff and locked in some parts of my body in order to hold this equilibrium. To stop from falling off of it because that's what balance meant - not falling off the wobble board that I was told to stand on and balance.
And this was something that reflected directly into how I was handling my life, my relationships, and my body at that time of my life. I was energetically, mentally and emotionally holding a certain rigidity in order to maintain the life I had created.
And so many people do this.
Today, in my work, I prefer to invite people to keep revisiting their needs consciously throughout the natural unfolding of life. This way they can experience a sense of unity within that cultivates a sense of harmony.
Due to this constant evolution of life, I don’t believe that it can be balanced. Life doesn’t work like that. Stuff happens all the time, and you get knocked off course sometimes. You may forget things, get tired, or emotional. You might misread situations; or unintentionally hurt people. And for those moments when you do feel in balance within yourself, something externally might require some of your resources, removing some of your buffer.
It makes more sense to me to describe this journey of life as a search for harmony, that comes with a deep acceptance of the actual experience of life. As sometimes life gets messy.
A permission for the colours of life to change. Through growing a capacity to be in the moment with the energy that you actually have while learning how to listen deeply and respond to your needs.
The magic of harmony lives there.
WWWWAAAAAAOOOOOFFFFFHHHHHHH (Loud Exhale). Imagine allowing that.
See you soon.
